Cows
Meet Alice
Living on just 2.5 acres we needed a smaller sized cow. We also wanted her to be a dairy/beef cow. After some research we settled on the Dexter breed.
Alice was almost 2 years old when we got her on July 17th 2021.
As our neighbor described her, she is BOSSY! After some warming up to us, she definitely settled in. She took the mother role of the pigs, giving them baths when she felt it was necessary. She will let us know when it's breakfast and dinner. And she gives us a nice little nudge when we don't bring her a treat.
Alice came to us pregnant, but we didn't know that due date. After what seemed like the longest pregnancy, Ruby was born on April 14th 2022.
Meet Ruby
Ruby arrived on April 14th 2022. She is half Dexter, half Scottish Highland. Ruby has adjusted well to living with a lot of pigs, which sometimes you can catch her trying to play with them. She also likes to play hide and seek from Alice (Alice does not like that).
Ruby is shy, but if you bring her something good to snack on you can get some good pets in.
Pigs
We first got pigs in 2019, starting with meat hogs. We quickly fell in love with raising pigs but knew those were not the right breed for us. In 2020 we got our first American Guinea Hogs. These pigs are the sweetest, cute, excellent quality of meat (sorry pigs) we have ever had. While we love this breeds temperament and meat quality, they are harder to sell as they are slow growing lard pigs which most people aren't on board with. Then something wonderful happened that helped us realize where we need to be in the pig world.
Meet Moto Moto
Moto Moto came to us unexpectedly as his owners were moving and needed to get rid of him. He is a MBoar registered Hungarian red Mangalitsa. Originally we didn't have much information on him and were just going to sell him. But after some digging we realized how lucky we were to have acquired him and saw this as our sign. We are still learning his temperament, but so far has been a nice boy and loves belly scratches.
Meet Hawk
Hawk came with Moto Moto and was pregnant. She is a swallow belly Mangalitsa. Her due date was unknown, so it was a waiting game. She had her first litter in June and has proven to be a very good mother. Hawk likes her food, and doesn't like when someone is in her way!
Meet Jay
We recently got Jay so she is still warming up to us. Jay is a swallow belly Mangalitsa. She is very cute with her big floppy puppy dog ears. We think she will be a sweet pig once she is comfortable.
